Attorney General Dave Sunday has joined a coalition of state attorney generals asking a federal agency to take emergency action on a drug linked to deaths in Pennsylvania.
Officials are calling this new drug ‘designer xanax’ and it is a highly potent synthetic drug mixed with opioids. It has also been found that Narcan is ineffective in overdose situations.
According to the Sunday’s office, nearly 60 Pennsylvanians have already died due to the new drug cocktail.
The letter to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration asks the agency to regulate the drug bromazepam by immediately scheduling it. The coalition believes stronger enforcement will help law enforcement agencies better remove the drug from circulation.
Sunday joins 21 other attorney generals’ in calling for emergency action on the new drug.
