Two local elementary schools will be among those receiving federal grant funding to increase the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables available to students.
Emily Brittain Elementary School will receive nearly $17,000 and McQuistion Elementary School has been awarded just over $25,000, according to state Rep. Marci Musteollo. Both schools are in the Butler School District.
This funding is distributed through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program with priority given to schools with the highest rates of students eligible for free and reduced-price meals.
A total of $5.5 million will be distributed to 220 Pennsylvania elementary schools as part of this program.
