The San Diego Padres defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 last night in the first game of a four-game series. Padres infielder Ian Kinsler hit a three-run home run off Pirates reliever Richard Rodriguez in the sixth inning, which decided the game. It is the eighth home run in 19-2/3rds innings this season allowed by Rodriguez.
More injury issues for Pirates pitching in the game, when starter Trevor Williams, who left the game in the fourth inning after experiencing right side discomfort. Williams had just struck out the Padres Wil Myers, when he motioned to the Pirates dugout.
Pirates first baseman Josh Bell had his hitting streak end at 15 games. The Pirates fell to 21-20, but didn’t lose ground to the Chicago Cubs, who lost to Cincinnati last night.
The Bucs and Padres play again tonight at 10:10. WISR pregame is 9:45pm. Jordan Lyles will start for the Pirates.
