Police have released more information about the fatal motorcycle crash Friday morning in neighboring Armstrong County.
According to State Police, the crash happened along Route 66 River Road in Gilpin Township just after 6:30 a.m.
A Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 55-year-old Ronald Mego of Leechburg was traveling north at a high rate of speed while going around a left curve. Mego lost control and traveled off the right side of the road before impacting a log, a fire hydrant, and a utility pole. Mego was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road had been shut down in both directions between Airport Road and Grant Street in Leechburg Borough. The road has since reopened.
This area is just east of Freeport.
