Butler County’s District Attorney is planning to refile felony charges against an out-of-state man after he allegedly hit a dog with a sledgehammer.
Police say that incident happened back in September when 47-year-old John Riordan of West Virginia repeatedly hit a dog owned by Jason Anthony of Butler. Riordan at the time was staying with Anthony at his Green Manor Drive home in Summit Township.
An assistant district attorney prosecuting the case reached an agreement with Riordan earlier this week, agreeing to drop the initial felony charges to a misdemeanor.
There is not word on when he charges will be officially refiled.
District Attorney Rich Goldinger was not immediately available for comment.
