Some local residents experienced a power outage Thursday afternoon.
Nearly 1,700 people lost power Thursday between about 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. with most of those in Center Township, as well as some in Concord and Clay townships.
According to a West Penn Power representative, the cause of the outage was one of the wooden cross-arms on a utility pole near Elliott Drive broke. The power line then came in contact with the pole and began to burn it.
In order to address the situation, the power needed to be turned off so that crews could safely make repairs.
