Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement officer is getting involved with the recent situation at the Ellwood City Medical Center.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro has filed a petition in Lawrence County against Americore Health, Americore Health Solutions, and Grant White who bought the 100-year-old not-for profit hospital in 2017 with a promise to operate the hospital for at least 10 years.
The petition asks the court to hold the owners accountable for those promises and force them to pay wages, unemployment taxes, and pension contributions due to 150 hospital workers.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health closed the center’s emergency room in November after hospital owners failed to meet licensing requirements for equipment.
