The Pittsburgh Penguins host the San Jose Sharks tonight at PPG Paints Arena. Face-off is 7pm. Pre-game on WISR is 6:30pm. It will be the Penguins first game without winger Jake Guentzel, who had shoulder surgery Tuesday after being injured in the team’s win over Ottawa Monday night. Guentzel is out four to six months.
The Penguins completed the month of December with the most wins in the NHL. They won 10 of their 12 games.
The Pens play back-to-back games this weekend. They visit Montreal Saturday night, then host Florida for a 5pm face-off Sunday.
Dallas defeated Nashville in the annual New Year’s Day Winter Classic 4-2 yesterday. The game was played in the Cotton Bowl and attracted more than 85,000 fans. It was the second-largest crowd to see an NHL game.
The Minnesota Wild will host the 2021 NHL Winter Classic at Target Field, home of the Twins. The opponent for the next New Year’s Day game will be determined.
