Members of the Pittsburgh Pirates made a trip to Butler yesterday as part of their annual CARE-a-Van tour.
They stopped at Missing Links Brewery on Evans City Road to make a donation of $2,500 to the Veterans In Need program, which Director of Butler County Veterans Services Jon Cyprian says will go to local vets who need help with day-to-day needs.
“We’ll pay the electric bill, the gas bill, or their mortgage,” Cyprian said. “Nine times out of ten, you can get approval for the grant within a day. But our board is very respectful of the donor’s dollars.”
Representatives from Mars Bank were also on-hand to donate $2,500 to the Veterans In Need fund as part of fundraising done with their Step Forward program.
The CARE-a-Van tour wraps up today and leads into Pirates Fest this Saturday at PNC Park. The family event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
