As the nation gears up for this year’s presidential election, legislators in Harrisburg are already looking to make changes to the election in 2024.
The state Senate has approved a bill that would move up the primary date up to the third week of March. Advocates of the bill say it will give the Keystone State a more influential role in deciding presidential nominees.
“We would be one of just a handful of states [to have an election early] compared to Super Tuesday, where candidates are just trying to cover in a mass amount of way,” Sen. John Gordnor, one of the bill’s primary sponsors, said.
The new law would only affect years with presidential primaries. Other primary dates would not be impacted.
This year’s primary is on April 28th.
