The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Sidney Crosby led the Pens with a four point night. He had a goal and three assists. Bryan Rust scored his team-leading 23rd goal of the season. The Pens went 3-for-3 on the power play last night and goaltender Tristan Jarry earned his 20th win of the season, stopping 34 of 36 shots.
Last night’s victory moved the Penguins to first place in the Metropolitan Division, one point better than the Washington Capitals. The Pens still have played one less game than Washington.
The Pens visit Toronto Thursday.
Evgeni Malkin was a late scratch from the game with an illness. The Pens also played without Zach Aston-Reese, who is out week-to-week with a lower body injury. Aston-Reese had not missed a game until last night.
The Pens did see the return of Dominick Kahun who had missed a month due to a concussion.
