A new statewide program goes into effect today that aims to protect crews in roadside work zones.
If drivers are caught speeding in work zones, they will get a warning for their first offense. But, there will be fines of $75 and $150 for second and third offenses.
It’s called the Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement program. This program uses vehicle mounted systems to detect and record motorists exceeding posted work zone speed limits using electronic speed timing devices. The goal of this program is to protect workers and all zones chosen for the program will be clearly marked with signs.
