The majority of athletes in the National Football League have voted to ratify the new collective bargaining agreement that was approved by team owners last month.
The new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) was sent to players on March 5th for their review. The athletes then had until 11:59pm on Saturday (March 14th) to vote. In order to pass the proposal, a majority of the 2,500 athletes needed to vote in favor of the agreement. According to the NFL’s website, 1,019 players voted in favor of the agreement, and 959 players voted against.
The new agreement will bring two additional teams into the playoffs as early as the 2020 season, and an option to increase the number of regular season games. Minimum salaries for players will also increase, and players will receive other financial benefits.
The new CBA will run through 2030.
