The Mars Area School District is pausing their budget process until they receive more information about how much revenue will be affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
According to Business Manager Jill Swaney, with 70% of revenue coming from local taxes, a significant shortfall is anticipated but the exact extent is very much unknown at this time.
The board expressed agreement that there are too many unknowns at this point to proceed with confidence at least until Governor Wolf’s Stay at Home order is lifted.
The board also approved a $330,000 technology purchase from the capital projects fund for devices that are expected to be in place by the beginning of the 2020-21 school year.
Mars administrators also announced that prom and graduation have been postponed from their originally scheduled dates but details will be forthcoming with regard to new plans.
