Butler City and Butler Township are among the local municipalities participating in a statewide activity this weekend.
Butler City Mayor Ben Smith and the Butler Township Commissioners are each encouraging residents to join them in observing Sunday, May 3rd as Bells Across Pennsylvania Day.
All places of worship and others with access to bells are asked to ring them for three minutes beginning at 7 p.m. to honor hometown heroes, rally with others on the frontlines of the coronoavirus crisis, and show resolve to restore local business and civic life. Those without access to a bell can join in this observance by doing something special for someone providing an essential service such as a call or note.
This statewide expression of gratitude, solidarity, and determination uses the ringing of a bell which has roots back in the American Revolution as a suitable way to come together in a time of continued sheltering in place.
