Even as many Butler Township residents continue to take advantage of recycling services offered by the Township’s waste services provider, the township would like to prevent people from dumping large items by the side of the road.
Township manager Tom Knights gave an update to commissioners Monday night about recyclables collected during the first quarter of 2020 including over 9,000 pounds of televisions, over 1,000 pounds of latex paint, and nearly 700 pounds of computers.
However, according to Commissioner Dave Zarnick, some people are ignoring rules about trash dumping on McCalmont and Old Plank Roads.
“I could not believe the amount of mattresses, TVs, and bedroom furniture that was thrown about at these locations,” Zarnick said. “We will be putting up cameras in designated areas throughout the township. We will catch the culprits on these cameras and we will prosecute to the fullest when we see illegal dumping in Butler Township.”
Waste Management is not collecting large items at this time but the Township is looking into when that service will be able to start back up again.
