The Slippery Rock University football team has been ranked ninth by Street and Smith and 11th by Lindy’s Sports when the two publications released their Division II preseason national rankings this week in their annual college football preview magazines. SRU receiver Henry Litwin and defensive end Chad Kuhn were named to first team Preseason All-America honors by both publications.
Slippery Rock is the only school in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with any first team preseason All-America selections in either magazine.
Shepherd and IUP from the PSAC appear in both preseason polls. Shepherd is ranked 15th in Street and Smith, with IUP ranked 23rd. Shepherd is 19th in Lindy’s preseason poll. IUP 20th.
The NCAA’s football oversight committee finalized a plan Thursday for an extended preseason that would include an additional two weeks for teams to hold walk-throughs. A plan was needed for extra preparation time since spring practice and summer activities like weight training and film study have been canceled by most teams because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has already recommended a reduced 9-game schedule this season. Slippery Rock University’s football team is scheduled to host Wayne State Saturday, September 12th at 1pm.
