Five players have withdrawn from the PGA Travelers Championship which begins today in Connecticut. Among the players withdrawing is last week’s winner in Hilton Head – Webb Simpson, after three positive COVID-19 tests this week. Player Cameron Champ and caddies Ricky Elliott and Ken Comboy have tested positive since arriving at TPC River Highlands for the event. Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the tournament despite a negative test because Elliott caddies for him. His brother Chase Koepka also withdrew. Graeme McDowell also withdrew despite testing negative because Comboy caddies for him. Simpson, despite testing negative, decided not to play this week.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said Wednesday that there will be extra coronavirus testing and stricter monitoring of protocols to prevent the spread of the virus going forward. Nick Watney was the first player to test positive, doing so last week in South Carolina.
