The Pittsburgh Pirates open a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field tonight. First pitch is 8:15pm. WISR pre-game is 7:50pm. Trevor Williams will start for the Bucs. Yu Darvish is the starter for the Cubs.
The Cubs are off to a 4-2 start and lead the National League Central by one game over Milwaukee. The Pirates are tied with Cincinnati for last place at 2-4.
The Pirates have the lowest team batting average in baseball through the first six games – at .171.
The Pirates and Cubs play again Saturday at 8:15pm – then Sunday at 2:20pm. The Ben Cherington Show begins on WISR at 1:20pm on Sunday.
Major League Baseball has postponed this weekend’s series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays after two Phillies staffers tested positive for the coronavirus. That came after it was reported earlier in the day that another Miami Marlins player tested positive, for a total of 17 players on the team. Miami’s games have also been postponed through the weekend.
The MLB has now decided that doubleheaders will now become a pair of seven-inning games. It is baseball’s latest radical rule change due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new rule begins Saturday.
