Case counts of the coronavirus in Butler County change daily; as do hospitalizations.
But when it comes to making predictions and creating plans, Dr. John Love, infectious disease director at Butler Health System, says the lack of mask wearing and social distancing makes it difficult.
“I would feel a lot more comfortable saying ‘Yeah we can plan for things,’ if I had any faith in peoples ability to follow the recommendations of mask wearing and social distancing,” Love said. “But a good portion of them have no interest in doing this.” Love added that, “as long as there’s a fraction of the population that keeps housing this virus, there’s no way to predict where this is going to go.”
Love told our newsroom that masks need to become commonplace in order to safely reopen schools.
“The more that we do now to normalize mask wearing and this behavior as we move into school season, the easier it’s going to be on the students and the schools for keeping kids safe in those environments.”
