Leaders of the PIAA—which oversees high school athletic in Pennsylvania—are scheduled to meet later this week to see if they’ll move forward with the fall season.
PIAA officials believe they have the necessary protocols in place to safely run the fall season. Executive Director Rob Lombardi spoke before the state senate Tuesday.
“One particular advantage the PIAA versus recreational sports, is that school officials can ensure compliance with their locally adopted athletic health and safety planning guide, and the enforcement of our comprehensive return to competition guideline.”
This comes after both Governor Tom Wolf and State Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said they recommend not playing sports until January 1st. However, Dr. Levine indicated the governor would not overrule the PIAA’s decision.
