Pennsylvania will be one of the states leading an effort to maintain and restore procedures at the United States Postal Service through a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
In a joint release with the Attorney General of the state of Washington, Shapiro announced the filing of two multi-state federal lawsuits challenging changes recently implemented at the USPS.
Service and policy changes made within the postal service such as limiting staff overtime and late or extra shifts have resulted in a delay in the delivery of mail and other items like medications. Shapiro maintains that these changes were made without following federal law.
There is also concern that the changes could result in problems for states like Pennsylvania who have recently made changes to election law to allow the mailing of ballots.
The lawsuit appears to have had an impact as a recent announcement from Postmaster General Louis DeJoy indicates that the changes will be postponed until after the election in November.
