Nearly 3,000 Butler County residents remain without power as of 3:30 p.m. Friday following Thursday night’s strong storms.
The first severe thunderstorm hit the downtown Butler area shortly before 5:30 p.m. and was followed by dozens of calls to the Butler County 911 Center concerning trees and wires down.
At one point more than 10,000 Butler County homes were without power—with many residents in the city of Butler, Butler Township, and Cranberry Township experiencing an outage.
Clean up efforts are ongoing as crews try to clear trees from roadways and from city parks, but those efforts could be hampered by storms expected to continue through Saturday.
