The family of a former Butler County man found dead in California over two years ago is looking forward to seeing justice served.
Jeff Kennedy is the father of 32-year-old Zackary Kennedy.
“It was a relief. It was a door that I was able to close and move on to the next chapter,” Kennedy said. “A lot of weight was lifted off my shoulders with the fact that the guy was walking around for the last two years after he killed somebody.”
“Now justice is in process, and we’ve got to wait for it to take its course now.”
The younger Kennedy was reported missing in Long Beach, California back in October 2017, before police found his remains in May of 2018.
Earlier this week police arrested 54-year-old Scott David Leo for Kennedy’s murder. Kennedy’s family previously filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Leo.
“We just wanted to make sure Leo pays both civilly and criminally. It’s not a monetary thing, the biggest thing is that nobody should ever have to die like my son did and no family should ever have to go through what we did,” Kennedy said.
“So we’re hoping we can get this word out and save another family from going through the tragedy.”
The detectives in the case have kept in close contact with the Kennedy family. Leo is expected to be arraigned on murder charges later today.
