A vote by state lawmakers to override the recent veto of a bill that would allow school districts to decide how many fans to allow in the stands has come up short.
In a special session Wednesday afternoon, the PA House of Representatives fell 20 votes short of the necessary 150 to override the veto by Governor Tom Wolf.
Wolf vetoed the bill earlier this week, but GOP leaders in the house believed they had enough votes to override that decision.
The bill would have given school boards the authority to make decisions about allowing spectators into sporting events and other extracurricular activities.
Before going to the Democratic governor’s desk, the bill passed with two-thirds support in the state house and senate which are both controlled by Republicans.
