The City of Butler Parks, Recreation Grounds, and Facilities Authority has taken the first step towards the creation of a non-profit foundation.
At their meeting Monday night, the Authority instructed Director of Facility Operations Dean Selfridge Jr to fill out the application necessary for the formation of a 501-C3 organization.
The foundation would function as a separate entity from the Authority but it would work in connection with the Authority to fundraise through events and activities as well as solicit donations and apply for grants that would then be used to maintain and upgrade Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park. Two authority members are expected to serve on the foundation board to ensure communication and coordination.
The application will still need to be approved by the Authority before submission. The Authority is expected to pay for the necessary filing fees to create the new foundation but the process for approval could take months.
