This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and a downtown Butler recovery center is once again planning to hold a ‘Remembrance & Celebration of Life Rally’ to mark the occasion.
The public is invited to attend this free annual event on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alameda Park Carousel Shelter. This event is an effort of The Grapevine Center which is a mental illness and addiction treatment facility.
This ceremony will commemorate and celebrate the lives of 13 Grapevine members who have passed away in the last year. Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel is scheduled to speak along with the Center’s Executive Director and the County’s Director of Mental Health. This gathering will include a light lunch.
Officials say people with mental illness die an average of 10 to 20 years earlier than other people and the situation with COVID has forced vulnerable people to isolate.
