The Pittsburgh Penguins traded goaltender Matt Murray to the Ottawa Senators Wednesday, in exchange for a second-round draft pick and forward prospect Jonathan Gruden. Gruden had 66 points and 30 goals in 59 games last year with London of the Ontario Hockey League.
Murray was a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pens, who have decided to move on with Tristan Jarry as their starting goaltender heading into next season. Murray is third all-time on the Penguins wins-list with 117 and 29-playoff wins.
The Pens used the 2nd-round pick they received to draft an 18-year old goaltender from Finland. They also selected a goaltender in the third round – they selected three forwards with their remaining picks.
Former Penguin Nick Bonino was traded by Nashville to Minnesota in a salary dump. Buffalo also did not offer a contract to Dominick Kahun, who the Pens traded away during the regular season.
