A federal organization has confirmed information provided by a whistleblower of misconduct at VA Butler Healthcare in 2017.
The United States Office of Special Counsel has sent letters to the President and Congress concerning an investigation into VA Police Service training drills that violated firearms safety protocols and put VA employees, police officers, and veterans at risk.
The Office of Special Counsel was informed about these active threat drills held at the Butler VA in 2017 and reported in 2018 by an unnamed whistleblower who said that police were not provided advanced notice and officers on duty responded with loaded weapons.
The whistleblower also alleges that a superior was informed of the violation but no corrective action was taken.
The VA Butler Healthcare Center Police have suspended all trainings pending revision of relevant procedures and implementing corrective measures. The Office of Special Counsel considers this matter closed.
