Last week we reported that the Butler Area School District was looking to change a state amendment to allow former teachers to become long-term subs.
Now, Republican State Senator Scott Hutchinson says he’s working toward making that wish a reality.
“We’ve talked with the Education Committee chairmen in the senate, and he thinks it’s a great idea,” Hutchinson said. “He’s going to work with us to do an amendment.”
Hutchinson also said that there is a shortage of substitute teachers across Western Pennsylvania.
“We recognize there is a need for more substitute teachers and this is one good avenue to promote that,” Hutchinson said. “So we’re hoping we can get that language into a bill that opens up the number of substitute teachers that are available in Pennsylvania.”
The state Senate will return to session after Election Day.
