State health officials are urging residents to avoid gatherings this holiday season as coronavirus cases surge across Pennsylvania.
State Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine says you should just be gathering with those who live in the same house.
“I understand that it’s a lot to ask. It’s a sacrifice to ask people, individuals and families, to not gather outside their households,” Levine said. “But that’s exactly what we’re asking people to do.”
Levine says the latest data shows that small gatherings are a part of the reason why case counts are growing.
“Throughout Pennsylvania, and throughout the nation, we’re seeing the impact really small gatherings, like dinner parties and birthday parties, and how that contributes to the spread of the virus in families and communities,” Levine said.
Levine says it’s a necessary step as the state now rises above 2,000 new cases per day.
