Four Butler County Soccer teams and one neighboring team will by vying for state championships this weekend.
The defending Girls 3A champion Mars Planets will look to defend their title when they face Villa Joseph Marie (15-0) at 4pm today at Hershey Park Stadium, in a match-up of two unbeaten teams. The Mars Girls are the #1-ranked team in the nation, according to the United States Soccer Coaches organization.
The Mars Boys are also in Hershey and will play in a championship game after the Mars Girls match tonight. The Planets (20-0) will meet Northern York (19-0-1) in the 3A title game at 6:30pm.
The North Catholic Girls play in the state championship game for their first time in school history tomorrow morning. The Trojanettes (15-2-1) will meet Bloomsburg (22-1) in the 2A title game Saturday at 11am.
The Seneca Valley Boys (16-1-1) will meet Neshaminy (13-1-2) in the 4A title game at 6:30pm Saturday in Hershey.
The North Allegheny Girls also make their first school appearance in the state 4A title game when they meet Pennridge Saturday at 4pm at Hershey Park Stadium.
Girls Volleyball:
The North Allegheny Girls Volleyball team are seeking their fourth straight state title this weekend against Unionville, from southeastern Pa. The Lady Tigers are three-time defending state champs. The match is at Cumberland Valley high school Saturday at 6pm.
PIAA Football:
Pine-Richland (9-0) will meet Governor Mifflin (8-0) in the state 5A semifinals Saturday in Hollidaysburg. Kick-off is 1pm.
Erie Cathedral Prep has won the second consecutive game due to a virus forfeit. Upper Dublin will not be able to play tonight. Prep will await the winner of the Pine-Richland-Governor Mifflin game for the 5A title next week.
Beaver Falls (10-0) and Wilmington (9-0) meet in the state 2A semifinals tonight at Geneva College. Kick-off is 7pm.
