The Pitt football team will try to become bowl eligible with their final regular season game against Georgia Tech tonight in Atlanta. Kick-off is 7pm. Pitt enters the game 5-5. Georgia Tech is 3-6. This game was postponed from November.
The Big Ten Conference yesterday dropped its six-game minimum requirement for the league championship game, clearing the way for #3-ranked Ohio State to play #15-ranked Northwestern for the conference title on December 19th. Ohio State finished the regular season with only five games after Michigan had to pull out of Saturday’s game because of positive coronavirus tests. The Big Ten had said before the season that teams would have to play six of their eight scheduled games to qualify for the championship game. Ohio State has missed three games because of pandemic issues.
The Big Ten decision was not the first for a conference. The ACC made an earlier decision to not have Notre Dame play a postponed game – which allowed the Fighting Irish to match up with Clemson for the ACC championship game.
LSU announced Wednesday that it will self-impose a bowl ban this season as a result of the NCAA’s investigation into improper booster payments to football players. LSU is currently 3-5. They have also self-imposed a loss of eight scholarships over the next two years, and will reduce recruiting visits, evaluations and communications.
