Ben Roethlisberger will not play this Sunday when the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Cleveland Browns for their final game of the regular season. Head coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday at his weekly press conference the team will rest their starting quarterback prior to the opening of the NFL post-season. Several other starting players may also sit out the game – but Tomlin said that will be determined as the practice week unfolds. Mason Rudolph will start at quarterback. Kick-off in Cleveland is 1pm.
With the Tomlin announcement – the Steelers are now 10-point underdogs.
The Steelers will either be the #2 or likely the #3 seed to begin the playoffs – but their opponent will be determined by the outcomes of the games on Sunday.
The Steelers defense currently has the NFL sack record of having at least one sack in 72 consecutive games – and this weekend – could become the first team to lead the league in sacks for four consecutive seasons. The Steelers are currently tied with the Oakland Raiders who led the league for three consecutive seasons in the old AFL from 1966 to 1968.
