The Pittsburgh Pirates were part of a multi-player, three- team trade Monday night that sent starting pitcher Joe Musgrove to the San Diego Padres. In exchange, the Pirates received two top prospects from the Padres, and a top catching prospect from the New York Mets. As part of the package, the Pirates also received Mars high school graduate and pitcher David Bednar.
The top prospect in the deal is center fielder Hudson Head, who is 19 years of age, and was San Diego’s number seven-ranked prospect. They also received left-handed pitcher Omar Cruz from the Padres.
The package saw the Pirates relaying starting pitcher Jake Lucchesi to the Mets for catcher Endy Rodriguez, who was their 14th-ranked prospect.
