A proposed state Constitution amendment would change how long governors can institute emergency declarations.
Currently, the Pennsylvania governor is allowed to indefinitely renew emergency declarations after every 90 days. Governor Tom Wolf has done that for the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
However, the new amendment would give the Governor the ability to call for an emergency declaration for 21 days, before it would then have to go to the house to approve any extension.
That amendment now goes to the voters in the spring primary.
