The City of Butler will hire a grant writer to help with the process of applying for federal money to help pay for firefighters.
At their Thursday night meeting, Council approved paying John Sly Grant Writing Services a sum of not more than $3,500 to prepare their application.
The SAFER Grant- which stands for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response- would allow the city reimbursement for four positions over three years. The city was previously awarded a SAFER grant in 2018 and if this one is awarded, it would pick up where that one leaves off.
There is no local cost match requirement this year due to CARES Act funding however, this is likely to make the grant process more competitive.
