Major League Baseball announced Thursday that its season will begin Thursday, April 1st, with an opening-day schedule of 15 games. Every team will be playing its first game on the first day for the first time since 1968. The regular season is scheduled to end October 3rd.
The Pirates will begin in Chicago with a 2:20pm game time with the Cubs.
The Pirates also announced home games in April, May and September will begin 30 minutes earlier than in previous seasons – 6:30pm. Their Sunday games will begin at 1:05pm. The Bucs home opener is Thursday, April 8th against the Cubs beginning at 1:35pm.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed outfielder Brian Goodwin and catcher David Wolters to minor league contracts with spring training invites. Both had career years in 2019, but struggled in the pandemic-shortened season last year.
Goodwin is a former #1 draft pick of the Washington Nationals. He hit 17 home runs in 130 games in 2019 with the Los Angeles Angels. He played for the Angels and Cincinnati Reds last year. The 28-year old Wolters started for the Colorado Rockies in the past two years.
