Ash Wednesday in the Roman Catholic Church marks the beginning of the Lenten season, but like everything else during the pandemic, things will look a little different this year.
Parishioners typically receive ashes in the form of a cross on their forehead, but will instead receive a sprinkling of the ashes on top of the head this year.
Diocese of Pittsburgh officials say this is a common practice of Ash Wednesday in other countries.
The move was made to help avoid contact between people according to the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
