Firefighters across Butler County were busy with several brush and grass fires Wednesday afternoon.
Calls started coming into to the Butler County 911 Center around 1 p.m. from areas including Butler, Cranberry, Forward, and Oakland townships. Multiple crews were called out to a brush fire in the 100 block of Panther Road in Connoquenessing Township that quickly spread to a garage and vehicle while threatening a residence.
Dry and windy weather makes this a dangerous time of year for brush and grass fires around our area, which can start easily. Even if the ground is wet, tops of field are quickly drying out.
Firefighters say the simple act of not burning when it is windy out is an easy choice but it can go a long way towards limiting damage from brush and grass fires, especially this time of year.
