The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the Boston Red Sox in spring training action on Saturday, the final 7-4.
Kevin Newman led the Bucs offensively with three hits and two runs. Bryan Reynolds added three hits and one run, and Phillip Evans finished with two hits. The Pirates’ pitching staff threw a combined eight strikeouts in Saturday’s contest, with Mars graduate David Bednar leading the way with three strikeouts.
The Buccos will return to action on Sunday, and will play the Baltimore Orioles in another spring training contest. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm.
