The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-2 last night to complete a six-game road trip. Coltan Sceviour scored twice in the game, less than a day after he had been put on waivers by the Pens. Jake Guentzel scored a hat trick in the game, including an empty-net goal in the final minutes. He now has 19 goals to lead the Pens this season. Tristan Jarry stopped 28 of 30 shots in goal. Center Teddy Blueger returned to the Pens lineup for the first time in a month.
Sceviour and defenseman Juuso Riikola both cleared waivers over the weekend, a move that will offer the Penguins roster flexibility and potential salary cap savings. They can also be moved back and forth from the active roster, taxi squad, or the Pens minor league club.
The Pens host the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday and Thursday this week at PPG Paints Arena, then travel to Buffalo for back-to-back games both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
The Pens are two points behind the first-place New York Islanders and Washington Capitals in the East Division. The Caps defeated Boston 8-1 Sunday. The Islanders earned two points with an overtime win over the Rangers.
