Butler junior guard Devin Carney has been named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s 2021 Boys Basketball “Fab Five” All-Star team. Carney averaged 30 points per game this season. He was joined on the Class 6A All-Section 1 team by Seneca Valley’s Cole Brooks.
Pine-Richland’s Joey Petcash and North Allegheny’s Khalil Dinkins and Greg Habib round out the All-Section 1 Class 6A team. Carney is the only junior in that section All-Star list.
Mihali and Tasso Sfanos of Mars were named to the Class 5A All-Section 4 team.
Knoch’s Ryan Lang along with North Catholic’s Andrew Ammerman and Connor Maddalon were named to the Class 4A All-Section 1 team.
North Allegheny’s Lizzy Groetsch is the Post-Gazette’s Girls Player of the Year. She is joined on the All-Section 1 team by teammate Jasmine Timmerson and Seneca Valley’s Olivia West. West is a junior who averaged better than 15 points per game for the Raiders. Groetsch led the Tigers to their first state championship and third WPIAL crown in her four years.
Mars high school’s Ava Black was named to the Class 5A All-Section 2 team.
Knoch high school had three of the five Class 4A All-Section 1 All-Stars. Senior Neveah Ewing, who averaged 15 points per game, is joined by junior Madilyn Boyer and sophomore Nina Shaw. Melaina DeZort from Freeport was also named to that Section 1 team. She led the section with 15.5 points per game.
North Catholic’s Dacia Lewandowski and Alayna Rocco were named to the Class 3A Section 1 team.
