The San Diego Padres defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 last night in the opening game of a four-game series at PNC Park. Wil Myers drove in five of the six runs for the Padres. Philip Evans had two hits to lead the Bucs. He is batting .406 over the first ten games of the season.
Trevor Cahill allowed just one run on three hits over five innings for the Pirates. He walked two and struck out eight. Rookie Rule-Five draft-pick Luis Oviedo took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 1-2/3rds innings. He allowed a two-run home run to Myers in the sixth inning for the game-winning runs.
The Pirates and Padres play again tonight at 6:35pm. Pre-game on WISR is 6:10pm. Chad Kuhl will go to the mound for the Bucs. Blake Snell starts for the Padres.
Former Pirates pitcher Tyler Glasnow earned his first win of the season for the Tampa Bay Rays last night. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out 14. He did not walk a batter in the Rays 1-0 victory over Texas. He has an 0.46 ERA through his first three starts. He has struck out 29 batters in 19 innings.
Gerrit Cole also a winner last night for the New York Yankees. He allowed one run on three hits over six innings, striking out eight. Cole is 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA in two starts for the Yankees. New York defeated Toronto 3-1 last night.
