The Butler Boys and Girls Track and Field teams had dominant performances at the Tri-State Track Championships at West Mifflin Saturday. The boys and girls teams had six individual wins each. For the Girls, it was the fourth time they have won the tournament in the last five years. Guinness Brown tallied wins in the 100 and 200-meter runs, and ran the anchor leg on Butler’s 1,600-meter run victory. C. J. Singleton, Skyler Vavro and Tristan McGarrah were other Butler Boys winners, who also had five runner-up finishers.
Emma Lehman won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Sarayne Forbes took the Shot Put and Discus. Alexia Mechling won the High Jump, Megan Baghetta took the Triple Jump and the Butler Girls also took the 1,600-meter relay. Butler will face Shaler today, then will host the 56th annual Butler Invitational this weekend. The Boys events are Friday, Girls events Saturday. Both meets begin at 12:15pm.
The Butler JV hockey reached the championship game of the PIHL Tier 2 post-season tournament following a 5-2 victory over Seneca Valley last Thursday. Brayden Povlick and Parker Worsley led the Tornado JV with a goal and assist each. Butler will meet North Hills in the title game this Friday at 9:20pm at the Ice Castle in Castle Shannon.
