The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Sidney Crosby opened the scoring within the first minute of the game last night, netting his 19th goal of the season. It was the 13th time in Crosby’s career that he has scored a goal in the opening minute of a game. He is now tied with Hall of Fame center Mark Messier for the most in NHL history.
The Penguins had five different goal scorers in the game, including Kasperi Kapanen, who returned from an injury that kept him out of the lineup for almost a month. He scored his eighth goal of the season in the second period. Goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 30 of 31 shots.
The Pens and Devils complete their season series Saturday afternoon at 12:30pm. Hear the game on WISR 680am. It will be the first of two games for the Pens this weekend.
The Pens and New York Islanders are tied for second place in the East Division with 63 points each, one point behind first-place Washington. The Capitals defeated the Islanders 1-0 in a shoot-out last night.
The Boston Bruins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 last night. The Bruins are three points behind the Pens and Islanders. The Pens host the Bruins for two games beginning Sunday afternoon. (Face-off is 3pm. WISR pre-game Sunday is 2:30pm.
