The Boston Bruins defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. The loss snapped a Penguins three-game winning streak. It was the final regular season meeting between the two playoff contenders.
The Bruins built a 3-0 lead with a goal in the second period, and added two more in the third before Jeff Carter scored for the Pens with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Tristan Jarry stopped 28 of 31 shots for the Penguins. The Pens were scoreless on three power plays during the game.
The Pens fell a point behind the Washington Capitals, who took over first place in the East Division with a 1-0 win over the New York Islanders last night. The Pens visit the Capitals Thursday.
Last night’s game called on the Penguins radio network by Hall of Fame broadcaster Mike Lange for the first time this season. Lange substituted for Josh Getzoff whose wife Maddie had their first child Monday morning.
