The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-1 last night at PNC Park. The Reds broke open a 1-1 game with six runs in the fourth inning. They went on to add three runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings. Mitch Keller allowed seven earned runs on seven hits in his 3-1/3rd innings. Catcher Jacob Stallings provided the Pirates only run with his second home run of the season in the second inning.
The Pirates have now been outscored 44-9 by Cincinnati in four games this season.
The loss was the Bucs ninth in the past 11 games, as they fell to 14-20 this season. They host the Reds tonight at 6:35pm. Pre-game begins at 6:10pm on WISR 680am. JT Brubaker will start for the Pirates. He is 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA this season.
Prior to the game, the Bucs designated veteran Todd Frazier for assignment. Frazier had just three hits and three walks in 40 plate appearances with the Pirates. The move was made to make roster space for outfielder Ben Gamel, who the Pirates claimed off waivers Sunday from Cleveland.
