A Mercer County couple has been charged after two young children were found playing in the road last weekend.
According to Grove City Police, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Broad Street just before 1 p.m. Sunday in response to a report by passing motorists that a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old were playing with a ball in the street.
An investigation revealed the child’s mother to be 28-year-old Kelsey Sweeney who was asleep in her apartment. She was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Police also charged 25-year-old Trenton Stearns for failing to notify Sweeney that he was leaving the residence and failing to make sure the door was secured.
Sweeney was charged with the same crime this past February following a similar incident. Mercer County Children and Youth Services is working with the family to make sure the children are kept safe.
