The two remaining Butler County teams in the Girls state Volleyball playoffs have reached the PIAA championship games in their classes.
–WPIAL champion Knoch defeated Montour 3-2 last night in the 3A semifinals. Sarah Armahizer led Knoch with 26 kills. The Knights will meet defending state champion Allentown Central Catholic Saturday at 3pm in the state title game. Knoch is now 23-0 this season. (The match scores: 25-19, 12-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-9)
–Freeport defeated WPIAL champion Beaver 3-1. The Yellow Jackets will meet Delone Catholic in the 2A championship Saturday at 1pm. They improved to 20-4 with the win. (Match scores: 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18.)
It is the first state final for both teams.
–North Allegheny eliminated defending state championGarnet Valley 3-2 in class 4A. The Tigers get Bishop Shanahan Saturday at 5pm. They improved to 22-0 with the victory.
It is the first time in WPIAL history that three local teams have reached the state finals.
–All of the championship games will be played at Richland high school in Johnstown.
